Russia Responds to US Assistance Offer Following Plague Researcher’s Death

A Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, warned citizens to steer clear of rumours after a laboratory technician died while working at a plague research centre in Siberia. The state‑issued cause of death was listed as pneumonia of unknown origin, and officials urged people to rely on reports from the national health watchdog.

BBC Russia editor Steve Rosenberg asked Peskov whether the United States had offered assistance to the Russian laboratory, following President Donald Trump’s previous statement that the U.S. would help if requested.

The incident highlights the fragile nature of managing high‑biological threats and the ongoing dialogues over biosafety standards and international collaboration.
