Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of former US President John F. Kennedy, has died at the age of 35. Her family announced her passing through a heartfelt social media post from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation: Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.
In November, Schlossberg had disclosed her diagnosis of an aggressive form of cancer, stating that she had been given less than a year to live. She was the child of designer Edwin Schlossberg and diplomat Caroline Kennedy, and leaves behind her husband George Moran and their two young children, Edwin and Josephine.
In a poignant essay published in The New Yorker last month, titled A Battle With My Blood, Schlossberg revealed her diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia in May 2024, shortly after the birth of her second child. My first thought was that my kids, whose faces live permanently on the inside of my eyelids, wouldn't remember me, she shared.
Despite undergoing chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, Schlossberg's prognosis remained grim. She expressed concerns about the pain her loss would inflict on her family, who have suffered numerous tragedies, including the assassination of her grandfather, President Kennedy, in 1963.
Schlossberg also documented her disappointment regarding her relative Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s new appointment as the head of the Department of Health and Human Services. Maria Shriver, a fellow journalist and her relative, honored Tatiana's fighting spirit, stating she fought like a warrior. She was valiant, strong, courageous. In addition to her advocacy for environmental issues, Schlossberg authored the book Inconspicuous Consumption: The Environmental Impact You Don't Know You Have and wrote for major publications, including the New York Times.
Schlossberg believed climate change to be the world’s most significant story, emphasizing its interconnectedness with politics, health, and business. In her own words, she sought to inspire others to engage in the fight against climate change, highlighting the crucial role of journalism in communicating such essential issues.
