An overnight Russian missile and drone strike on Kyiv has resulted in the deaths of at least four individuals, according to Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. The attack specifically targeted residential areas, hospitals, and sports facilities, leading to widespread destruction, particularly in the Shevchenkivskyi district where an entire section of a residential high-rise building was obliterated. Reports indicate that some residents remain trapped beneath the rubble as rescuers work diligently to reach them.

In the broader Kyiv region, additional casualties have been reported, with a woman killed and two others injured amidst the onslaught. The Russian military has yet to provide any commentary regarding the recent attacks. Ukraine's emergency service, DSNS, has stated that at least 13 people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were injured in the capital as a result of the strikes. Footage shared by the agency shows dazed and shocked residents being evacuated from the devastated building, which continued to burn.

Moreover, officials revealed that damage extended to one of the entrances of the city’s underground metro stations, leading many residents to seek shelter there as the attack unfolded. The recent wave of assaults marks a troubling increase in the frequency and intensity of aerial attacks on Kyiv and other urban centers in Ukraine since the onset of the full-scale invasion by Russia, which began in February 2022. This incident is described as one of the deadliest attacks on Kyiv in recent months.
