Rohan Dennis, the Australian Olympic cyclist, has pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified following a 2023 incident that killed his wife, Melissa Hoskins.
Dennis, 36, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday after police pulled him over last month with two children as passengers.
In May last year Dennis was sentenced to a suspended 17‑month jail term and a two‑year good‑behaviour bond. The court accepted that he was not criminally responsible for Hoskins’ death but found him reckless.
Hoskins, also an Olympic cyclist, mounted the car bonnet before being struck by the vehicle as Dennis drove away. She later died from her injuries at the hospital.
The judge imposed a five‑year driving disqualification starting from the December 2023 incident date, which Dennis has now breached.
Prosecutors have asked the court to refer the case to the District Court for both the driving offence and the breach of the good‑behaviour bond.
Dennis has been scheduled to return to court in September to face these additional charges.
