Nicki Minaj - the US-based, multi-million-selling Trinidadian rapper - has publicly backed President Donald Trump's allegations that Christians face persecution in Nigeria.
In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, Minaj said on Tuesday at a UN event organised by the US, adding that Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart … simply because of how they pray.
This follows recent threats by Trump to send troops into Nigeria guns a-blazing if its government continues to allow the killing of Christians. However, the Nigerian presidency states that the widespread violence affects everyone, regardless of background or belief.
Minaj emphasized that calling for the protection of Christians is about uniting humanity against injustice. She expressed gratitude to Trump for prioritizing this issue and recognized Nigeria as a beautiful nation with deep faith traditions.
The statement follows months of allegations by right-wing figures in Washington claiming that Islamist militants are systematically targeting Christians in Nigeria, although analysts point out that many violent conflicts are rooted in competition over resources and inter-ethnic tensions.
The Nigerian government acknowledges the existence of violence, asserting: Terrorists attack all who reject their murderous ideology - Muslims, Christians and those of no faith alike.
Minaj's appearance marked her most significant political intervention yet, and she continues to leverage her strong platform for advocacy in facing various injustices globally.
