In brief
A drone attack by Israel on a police post in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza resulted in seven deaths, including senior officer Mohammed Marwan Salem. Palestinian authorities denounced the strike as a massacre while Israeli officials described the victims as militants. The attack followed a tense cease‑fire that has seen nightly violations between Israel and Hamas. Casualties were treated at al‑Shifa hospital, where conflicting reports about their status surfaced. The incident underscores the fragile nature of the region’s cease‑fire and the high stakes of ongoing military actions.
Israeli drone strikes Gaza police station near Jabalia market, killing senior officer Mohammed Marwan Salem and six other officials, according to health and police reports.
Witnesses describe a drone firing four missiles at a post that was used by the Hamas‑run police force. Palestinian interior ministry labelled the attack a massacre, identifying Marwan as the head of the local police station. Israeli military sources claimed Marwan headed the Central Jabalia Battalion’s security and that three other militants were killed with him.
The wounded were transported to al‑Shifa hospital in Gaza City. An uncle of one deceased officer insisted the victim was a civilian, while an officer in a civilian vehicle was targeted by surveillance aircraft. The uncle demanded clarity on the shoot‑down’s purpose, stating the complainer was a police officer on patrol.
Two further Israeli attacks in southern Gaza on Tuesday killed a man and injured three others in Khan Younis, allegedly targeting a Hamas operative. In Rafah, Israeli gunfire killed ten‑year‑old Muataz Abu Shaar; his aunt described the boy’s last moments in a tent. She stated that no safety exists everywhere and called for the war to end.
The cease‑fire that began last October remains fragile, with both sides accusing each other of daily breaches. Gaza’s health ministry reports over 1,110 civilian deaths since the cease‑fire, while Israel has confirmed four soldier fatalities from Palestinian attacks. The conflict began after Hamas launched the Oct. 7 assault on southern Israel.
Israel responded with a military campaign that, according to the territory’s health department, has killed over 73,230 civilians to date.
