Freedom 250: IndyCars Rev Up the Capital’s 250th Anniversary

In a whirlwind test drive, BBC journalist Helena Humphrey set the 250‑mile Freedom 250 circuit—nestled in Washington, DC—to 180 mph ahead of the race weekend.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix is part of the U.S.’s belated 250‑th birthday celebrations, drawing an estimated 140,000 spectators over the weekend. It marks the first major auto race in the capital in more than 24 years.
