Five Injured, One Critically in Shooting at Virginia State University

Five people were injured, one critically, after a shooting outside a residence hall on the campus of Virginia State University (VSU).

Police responded to the incident around 1:28 a.m. local time on Saturday. Five victims were transported to local hospitals with gunshot wounds; four were not in life‑threatening condition.

No arrests have been announced, but a significant police presence remains on campus as the investigation is led by Chesterfield County Police with assistance from campus and state officers.

VSU, an HBCU with about 5,000 students located 20 miles south of Richmond, will begin classes this Monday. The university and police urge calm and safety amid the crisis.
