In brief

Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff was shot at in Mumbai but survived, emerging with no gunshot wounds, Indian police confirmed yesterday. The attack occurred on Sunday evening as his car left a football club in the Juhu suburb, with gunmen firing at close range from the front passenger seat. Two people, including Shroff’s driver, were injured, and Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister warned that such intimidation will not be tolerated. The incident adds to a worrying trend of targeted attacks on public figures across India.

The 36‑year‑old was targeted on Sunday evening as his car drove away from a football club in the Juhu suburb. Video footage released by several media outlets shows at least two gunmen firing multiple shots from close range into the front passenger seat while the vehicle moved past onlookers.

Authorities reported that two people were wounded in the attack, one of whom was Shroff’s driver. Despite the confrontation, the actor and his mother were left "shaken" but physically unharmed.

"These attempts to intimidate people will not be tolerated, and we will put an end to this hooliganism," said Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister of Maharashtra. He paid a personal visit to Shroff later that evening, expressing concern for the star’s safety.

Mumbai’s growing threat to public figures mirrors a series of high‑profile attacks in recent years, including a 2024 gun attack on Salman Khan’s home and the fatal shooting of politician Baba Siddique. The trend raises ongoing worries about security for celebrities and political figures across the country.

Shroff, the son of two prominent actors, first appeared on screen in 2014’s romance film Heropanti and has since starred in numerous Bollywood blockbusters. An avid football enthusiast, he also plays for Mumbai FC, the professional club based in the city.
