England football icon Kevin Keegan dies at 75

Former England captain and manager Kevin Keegan has died at the age of 75, a week after revealing a diagnosis of stage four cancer, his family confirmed.

The prolific career saw him at Scunthorpe United, Liverpool, Hamburg, Southampton and Newcastle; later he managed Newcastle, Fulham, England, and Manchester City.

In June, Keegan publicly disclosed his stage four cancer, the most advanced stage where the disease has spread throughout the body.

“Kevin was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments,” a family statement said, adding that the late champion was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

“The family would like to thank Kevin's remarkable medical team for their support. This is a hugely difficult time, and they request privacy,” they continued.
