A judge has declared a mistrial in the rape case against Harvey Weinstein, after the jury in New York said it was deadlocked and unable to reach a verdict.

This latest outcome marks the third time a New York jury has considered the case against the 74-year-old disgraced film mogul, who remains jailed on other charges.

The month-long trial focused on whether Weinstein raped aspiring actress Jessica Mann over a decade ago.

Weinstein was initially convicted, but that verdict was later overturned. This follows a previous mistrial declared after a second attempt to prosecute him last year also resulted in a deadlock.

Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, stated that the office is evaluating whether to try again. He expressed gratitude to the jurors for their commitment and thanked Mann for her bravery in coming forward.

Weinstein’s lawyers criticized the prosecution, arguing public perception against Weinstein has unduly influenced the jury's decisions. In contrast, one juror revealed that the jury was split, with nine favoring acquittal.

Weinstein, who has faced over 100 accusers, continues to assert his innocence, while Jessica Mann emphasized her truth remained despite the mistrial.
