The fourth Trans‑Himalayan Communication and Social Development Conference opened Sunday, 8 November 2026, at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, bringing together more than 100 experts, scholars, media professionals and young researchers from the Trans‑Himalayan region. Jointly organized by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, the University of Dhaka, Kangba TV and Himalaya Television, the conference set out to strengthen mutual understanding and trust among the participating nations.

Representatives from a wide array of countries assembled in the campus halls to discuss the evolving landscape of international communication. The event’s agenda highlighted how digital intelligence is reshaping regional development governance in the Trans‑Himalayan zone.

Key themes included the application of artificial intelligence to regional planning, the spread of misinformation across borders, and strategies to promote more accurate cross‑border communication. Panels also examined climate governance challenges that affect the high‑altitude communities and the role of media in fostering cooperation.

The media forum, featuring speakers from several member countries, aimed to exchange views on media credibility and responsibility. Participants underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to promote regional communication and people‑to‑people exchanges.

Beyond the policy discussions, the conference showcased a photo and video exhibition that highlighted the cultural heritage and environmental issues of the Trans‑Himalayan region. A book exhibition ran alongside, offering scholars and the public access to a selection of recent research in the field.

Additionally, a media industry study tour took place in Bangladesh, allowing participants to observe local media infrastructure and production practices. The tour aimed to provide practical insights that could support the development of digital media ecosystems in the region.

The conference schedule is set to continue through 11 November, with a series of forums, workshops and networking sessions planned each day. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with experts on technology, policy and media cooperation.

The event’s organizers emphasized that the conference is a platform for building enduring partnerships. By advancing shared knowledge of digital intelligence and regional development, they hope to foster stronger ties across the Trans‑Himalayan states.

Through its combination of academic dialogue, multimedia displays and on‑site tours, the fourth Trans‑Himalayan Communication and Social Development Conference demonstrates a commitment to integrating digital innovation with sustainable regional progress.
