Thousands Unite for Nationwide Anti-Trump Protests on 250th Anniversary of Revolutionary War
Demonstrators across the US voice grievances against the Trump administration in coordinated protests.
On Saturday, thousands of Americans gathered nationwide to voice their dissent against actions taken by President Donald Trump, aligning with "50501," a coordinated series of protests designed to reflect "50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement" in honor of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War's onset.
From outside the White House to Tesla dealerships and city centers, demonstrators chanted and held placards expressing diverse grievances. A significant rallying cry focused on the return of Kilmar Ábrego García, a Salvadoran individual wrongfully deported from the US.
As political protests gain momentum, recent events like the "Hands Off" demonstrations in early April — which once again brought tens of thousands to the streets — draw attention to rising discontent with the Trump administration. Polls from Gallup indicate that while 45% of voters approve of Trump’s performance, this figure still falls short of the historical average of 60% for first-term presidents.
Participants voiced varied concerns regarding Trump’s administration's actions, including cuts by the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) and the deportation issue of Ábrego García. Protester Gihad Elgendy shared his frustrations outside the White House, emphasizing that the president could easily negotiate his return.
Incidents during the protests remained minor and largely peaceful, despite a few heated moments. At the Boston site, demonstrators waved "No Kings" banners, echoing the spirit of rebellion against tyranny, a historical reminder symbolized through gatherings and presentations focused on the country’s fight for freedom.
Support for Trump appears to be waning, especially concerning economic policies, with approval ratings reflecting a noticeable decline from 47% on his inauguration day to 43% recently. Comparing to earlier this month, a massive turnout for protests dazzled observers; however, Saturday’s events showcased vibrant activism across all 50 states, asserting a resounding call for accountability from current leadership.
