Following a night of unrest, Ballymena faces a second wave of anti-immigration riots sparked by a controversial court case, with multiple areas reporting vandalism and injuries.

A second night of unrest unfolded in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, as anti-immigrant demonstrations spiraled into violent riots on Tuesday. The situation escalated following outrage over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl, which brought out protests leading to significant disorder in various towns.

Reports indicate that homes, businesses, and vehicles suffered attacks in Ballymena's Clonavon Terrace area. In Monday's initial wave of violence, buildings were set ablaze after tensions heightened around the demonstration. On Tuesday evening, riotous crowds turned aggressive, launching petrol bombs, bricks, and fireworks at police; 17 officers were reported injured in the chaos.

In response to escalating violence, law enforcement deployed water cannons and plastic baton rounds against rioters in Ballymena, while disturbances were also reported in Belfast and Carrickfergus. Prior to the riots, there had been protests in Belfast, Lisburn, Coleraine, and Newtownabbey, reflecting widespread discontent.

The tension traces back to the court appearance of two 14-year-old boys charged with the serious assault of the teenage victim. This developing narrative fueled anger among some community members, leading to signs displaying residents' nationalities, including messages like "British household" and the Philippine flag in front of affected homes.

Chief Constable Jon Boutcher of the Police Service of Northern Ireland condemned the violent acts as "mindless" and unacceptable. He highlighted concerns that such criminal behavior jeopardizes lives and undermines the justice process for the victim. Ongoing investigations are reviewing footage to identify perpetrators, while five individuals were arrested for rioting last night, alongside one more in Newtownabbey for related disorder.
