Florida Investigates Tate Brothers Amid Legal Controversy
Florida launches a criminal inquiry into Andrew and Tristan Tate as they face multiple allegations across jurisdictions.
Florida has initiated a criminal investigation into Andrew and Tristan Tate, the controversial British-American influencers known for their significant online presence. The inquiry follows their recent arrival from Romania, where they are currently embroiled in severe allegations related to rape and human trafficking. Attorney General James Uthmeier revealed that search warrants and subpoenas have been issued as part of this active investigation.
In addition to the criminal investigation, the Tate brothers are battling a civil lawsuit filed by a woman who accuses them of coercing her into sex work and later defaming her after she provided testimony to Romanian authorities regarding their activities. The brothers have firmly denied all allegations against them.
Andrew Tate, 38, previously gained notoriety as a former kickboxer and has also appeared on the UK version of Big Brother, where he has amassed millions of followers, often promoting misogynistic views. His brother, Tristan, 36, faces similar charges in the U.K. concerning rape and human trafficking, which both brothers refute.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Attorney General Uthmeier announced, "I directed my office to work with law enforcement partners to conduct a preliminary inquiry into Andrew and Tristan Tate." He emphasized the thorough nature of the evidence review leading to the execution of search warrants and subpoenas in the ongoing investigation.
The brothers' attorney, Joseph McBride, criticized the attorney general's remarks, claiming they compromised legal ethics and expressed bias, particularly highlighting the contentious ongoing lawsuit involving a Florida woman. McBride stated that Uthmeier's comments were "inflammatory" given the situation.
The Tates were initially arrested in Romania back in December 2022, facing accusations of rape and human trafficking. Following their release under house arrest, both moved to Romania after previously living in the UK. Recent allegations have included claims related to sex with a minor and trafficking underage individuals, adding to their legal troubles.
Authorities expect that the brothers will need to return to Bucharest by the end of March as stipulated by prosecutorial requirements. However, their compliance remains uncertain at this stage. Meanwhile, Andrew Tate faces additional charges from police in Bedfordshire, UK, pertaining to separate allegations of rape, human trafficking, and tax evasion.
In parallel, four British women have launched a civil lawsuit against Andrew Tate in the U.K., accusing him of rape and coercive control, a move they felt necessary given the lack of criminal prosecution in Romania. They have appealed to UK authorities for a resolution to their claims.
As this multifaceted legal saga unfolds, the Tates are at the center of scrutiny from both American and international law enforcement agencies, indicating a complex web of accusations that could have far-reaching implications.
