Suspicions Rise: Norwegian Crown Princess's Son Under Investigation for Multiple Offences
Marius Borg Høiby faces serious allegations, including multiple rapes, as police pass the case to prosecutors.
Norwegian police have revealed that Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is suspected of multiple serious offences, including three counts of rape. The 28-year-old, who has no royal title or official responsibilities, was arrested three times in 2024—specifically in August, September, and November—as part of an extensive inquiry. Following a comprehensive 10-month investigation, which included numerous witness interviews and a review of substantial digital evidence, the case has been sent to the prosecutors to determine if charges will be brought against him, according to police attorney Andreas Kruszewski.
Høiby's lawyer, Petar Sekulic, emphasized that while his client is "taking the accusations very seriously," he disputes wrongdoing in most instances, particularly concerning allegations of sexual assault and violence. The police investigation began after Høiby was initially detained on August 4, 2024, under suspicions of assault. The Oslo Police District has noted that due diligence was exercised during the investigation process.
Allegations against Høiby also include four counts of sexually offensive behavior, a count of abuse within a close relationship, and two counts of bodily harm. Police have indicated that some sexual offence allegations were not pursued further due to "statute of limitations and evidentiary reasons." While Kruszewski affirmed that the number of victims involved is in the double digits, further details regarding the case remain undisclosed.
The Royal House of Norway has refrained from making additional comments, stating that the matter is currently progressing through the judicial system. As developments continue to unfold, public scrutiny and concern regarding the implications surrounding the allegations are mounting.
