The EU's justice commissioner, Michael McGrath, emphasized that Shein has one month to address these concerns or risk fines corresponding to their sales within EU member states.
According to the findings from the EU’s consumer rights enforcer, Shein is accused of a range of troubling practices that compromise consumer interests while shopping. These include misleading information, deceptive product labels, exaggerated sustainability claims, and unclear contact details. Furthermore, the retailer is reported to manipulate pricing by showcasing false discounts and applying pressure tactics through artificial deadlines to encourage urgent purchases.
The EU's directive extends to ensuring that Shein's product reviews and ratings are not presented in a misleading fashion.
