Florida Launches Investigative Hunt for Tate Brothers Amid Controversies
The state of Florida has initiated a criminal investigation into controversial influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate, following their recent arrival from Romania.
Florida has officially opened a criminal investigation into Andrew and Tristan Tate, well-known influencers who recently arrived from Romania where they faced severe accusations relating to rape and human trafficking. Attorney General James Uthmeier confirmed the launch of an inquiry, stating that investigators are currently executing search warrants and issuing subpoenas as part of the active case.
The Tate brothers, notorious for their polarizing online presence, are currently facing a civil lawsuit from a woman who alleges they coerced her into sex work and subsequently defamed her after she testified to Romanian authorities. They have categorically denied all claims made against them.
Andrew Tate, 38, a former kickboxer who gained fame as a contestant on the UK version of Big Brother, and his brother Tristan, 36, are embroiled in other legal troubles as well. Both men face separate charges of rape and human trafficking in the UK, charges they also refute.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Uthmeier declared, “Last week, I directed my office to work with our law enforcement partners to conduct a preliminary inquiry into Andrew and Tristan Tate.” He emphasized the seriousness of the allegations that prompted this investigation, leading to the issuance of search warrants.
Joseph McBride, the Tate brothers' attorney, condemned the attorney general's comments as “inflammatory” and “biased,” expressing concerns over the perceived fairness of the ongoing inquiry. He argued that Uthmeier's public statements disrupt the ethical balance of the legal proceedings, particularly given that the Tates are engaged in a separate lawsuit against a Florida woman they claim has attempted to derail their lives via false allegations.
The Tate brothers were detained in Romania in December 2022 on serious charges before being released under house arrest for several months. They are expected to return to Bucharest by the end of March to comply with prosecutors’ requirements, although their compliance remains uncertain.
On the UK front, authorities in Bedfordshire continue to pursue Andrew Tate's extradition on unrelated charges, while a group of four British women has also filed a civil case in the High Court alleging they were subjected to rape and coercive control by him. They have urged UK officials to take prompt action as they believe criminal justice in Romania may not effectively address their grievances.
