Rescue teams mobilize following an avalanche that has buried several individuals on Eiger.


A major rescue operation is currently in progress in the Swiss Alps as authorities respond to a catastrophic avalanche on the Eiger mountain, entombing several people beneath its snow.

The avalanche occurred around midday on Saturday, according to a statement from the Bern Cantonal police, who have now initiated a comprehensive rescue mission. Multiple teams are diligently searching the area for the missing individuals affected by this devastating event. Standing at 3,967 meters (approximately 13,000 feet), the Eiger is a renowned peak located near popular resort towns such as Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and Wengen. The mountain’s north face is particularly infamous among climbers for its sheer difficulty and treacherous conditions, solidifying its status as one of the most formidable climbing challenges in the world. As the rescue efforts continue, the community holds its breath, hoping for the safe recovery of those still trapped.
