Historic Drop in Illegal Border Crossings Under Trump Administration

The Department of Homeland Security reports record low illegal southwest border crossings, attributing the success to President Trump's policies.


The U.S. has witnessed a dramatic decline in illegal border crossings, reaching a historical low that contrasts sharply with the previous administration's approach.


After years of struggling with border security, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a significant turnaround: a record low in illegal southwest border crossings. This momentous change has been linked to President Trump’s stringent enforcement measures.

The Trump administration swiftly took action in response to what it perceived as a dire situation left by President Biden. Under Biden, the U.S. faced a staggering 7.6 million illegal entries, with almost 2 million coming from nations considered threats to national security. However, recent statistics indicate a substantial decline in illegal crossing rates—from an alarming 155,000 per month under Biden to a mere 7,180. Daily apprehensions have also dropped by an impressive 95%, decreasing from 5,100 to just 230.

As confirmed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, “operational control is becoming a reality.” This achievement, once deemed improbable just months ago, marks a new era for border security. Border Patrol agents now feel empowered to fulfill their duties effectively. In Commissioner Pete Flores' words: “The border is closed to illegal crossings… you will be prosecuted, and you will be deported.”

This newly enforced approach starkly contrasts the Biden administration’s previously lenient policies, which allowed millions to enter the country, including individuals belonging to violent gangs and those from adversarial nations such as China, Iran, and Syria.

Under Biden, more than 1.7 million individuals had been classified as Special Interest Aliens (SIA) by his own DHS, yet many were released into American communities. This included over half a million criminal aliens with alarming records:

- 15,000 charged or convicted of murder
- 20,000 for sexual assault
- Over 105,000 for assault
- 16,820 for weapons offenses
- 3,372 for kidnapping
- More than 70,000 for drug-related crimes

In a controversial move, Biden also granted deportation protections to nearly 1 million undocumented migrants through Temporary Protected Status, allowing many to stay indefinitely in the U.S.

Under President Trump, the narrative is clear: America’s borders are secure, emphasizing a return to a robust national security framework and strengthened law enforcement. The border is now firmly closed to illegal crossings, signaling a decisive shift in policy.
