Norwegian Crown Princess's Son Arrested on Rape Charges

Marius Borg Høiby, son of Norway's Crown Princess, has been arrested on suspicion of rape, with additional charges related to violence and other alleged offences against multiple victims.

Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, has been arrested by police in Oslo on suspicion of rape. This latest legal issue compounds existing allegations Mr. Høiby is facing related to violence. Although he is the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, Høiby does not hold a royal title nor has official royal duties.

Norwegian authorities announced on Tuesday that Høiby has been charged with engaging in sexual intercourse with a victim who was unable to resist the act due to being "unconscious or for other reasons." Høiby, who has reportedly denied these allegations, faces several charges associated with offences allegedly committed against four different victims. The police clarified that the rape allegations include details of a sexual act that did not involve penetration.

Local media reports indicate that the Norwegian palace has opted not to comment on this recent arrest. Marius Borg Høiby was detained shortly after midnight CET on Monday while in a vehicle with a separate incident victim. He is also facing charges related to violence and criminal damage stemming from an incident on August 4, which has now extended to include allegations of "maltreatment" within intimate relationships, along with an additional violation of a restraining order concerning the same victim. Furthermore, authorities reported that Høiby was driving without a valid license at the time of his arrest.

Additionally, police have conducted a search of Høiby’s residence at Skaugum, the official home of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess. The young man has previously faced legal issues related to abusive behavior towards ex-girlfriends Juliane Snekkestad and Nora Haukland, as well as threats against a male acquaintance.
