On November 8, 2026, the 36th Chinese medical team completed a four‑day free‑care outreach camp at Kinduni Health Center in Zanzibar, Tanzania, treating more than 5,000 residents. The initiative was organized at the invitation of the Maisha Bora Foundation, headed by Zanzibar’s first lady Mariam Mwinyi.

The Chinese specialists worked alongside local medical staff to provide consultations and treatment across multiple departments, said Wang Wei, the head of the Chinese team. The camp offered services in general medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, as well as diagnostic and laboratory procedures.

According to the Chinese delegation, the outreach had become a constructive opportunity for sustained capacity‑building at grassroots health facilities. The team expressed hope that more such joint medical outreach camps would be organized to boost local healthcare capacity and improve residents’ well‑being.

The closing ceremony saw Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, Zanzibar’s second vice president, present a certificate of appreciation to the Chinese medical team. He remarked that the long‑running Chinese medical mission to Zanzibar has yielded tangible outcomes and that the cooperation “embodies the profound friendship between the peoples of China and Tanzania.”

During the event, local residents attended clinics and received preventive health education, including vaccination drives and nutrition counseling. Over 5,000 patients were examined, diagnosed, and in many cases treated on the spot, resulting in a significant reduction in untreated conditions within the community.

Health authorities in Zanzibar reported that the collaborative skill‑sharing program has already led to improvements in local staff’s diagnostic accuracy and patient management. The Maisha Bora Foundation expressed gratitude for the Chinese team’s professionalism and foresight in integrating advanced medical equipment into the existing facility.

The initiative aligns with Tanzania’s broader health development goals, which emphasize strengthening primary care and fostering international medical partnerships. The Chinese delegation’s presence has been credited with bringing modern medical practices to the island’s healthcare system.

Following the successful camp, organizers plan to replicate the model in other Tanzanian regions, scaling up the outreach while incorporating lessons learned from the Zanzibar experience. Both sides anticipate continued collaboration in future medical missions.
