A Los Angeles woman dubbed the 'Ketamine Queen' has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for selling drugs that led to the death of Friends actor Matthew Perry. Jasveen Sangha, 42, pleaded guilty last September to five charges, including one count of distributing ketamine resulting in death or bodily injury. Prosecutors described the American-British dual-national's North Hollywood home as a drug-selling emporium - selling a range of drugs to wealthy and well-connected clients.
Perry, who had struggled with addiction for years, was found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in October 2023. Investigators determined his death was caused by the acute effects of ketamine. Ketamine is a dissociative anaesthetic that has some hallucinogenic effects and is supposed to be administered only by a physician. Sangha sobbed as relatives of Perry addressed the court, before the judge announced her sentence.
The judge noted that Sangha must answer for her crimes, as she had shown no remorse since her arrest. Given the opportunity to address the court, she admitted her poor decisions had shattered people's lives and expressed deep shame and sorrow for her actions.
Ahead of Sangha's sentencing, Perry's stepmother Debbie Perry asked the judge to impose the maximum prison sentence, citing the irreversible damage caused by her actions. Federal authorities found dozens of ketamine vials and thousands of pills including methamphetamine and cocaine during a raid at Sangha's home.
Initially denying the charges, Sangha changed her plea in August, just weeks before her trial was set to begin. As part of her plea agreement, she also admitted to selling ketamine to a man named Cody McLaury, who died hours after the purchase due to an overdose.
Although facing a maximum sentence of 65 years, Sangha received a 15-year term. Several letters in support of her were filed by her family and friends, while her lawyers requested a lenient sentence, noting her acceptance of responsibility and lack of prior record. Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing in Friends, had used ketamine as part of supervised therapy for depression prior to his death.
