Trump says Board of Peace reached agreement for disarmament of Hamas
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the Board of Peace—a coalition he spearheaded—has secured a deal that would fully disarm Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. He described it as a key milestone toward establishing a new Palestinian government.
The specifics of the agreement are unclear, and neither Hamas nor Israel has issued a comment. Trump stated that Israeli forces would withdraw from Gaza once disarmament is completed.
The Board’s proposal is the next step in a U.S.-brokered ceasefire plan that includes removing armed groups and rebuilding Gaza’s infrastructure.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump explained that the agreement is a major milestone within his 20‑point peace plan. He said that as disarmament proceeds, Israel will pull out, and an International Stabilization Force will work with a new Palestinian police force to ensure Gaza’s security for residents and neighbors.
Earlier this year, a senior Palestinian official told the BBC that Hamas rejected a disarmament proposal from a top figure in Trump’s peace negotiations. That refusal underscores the complex nature of the talks.
Reports earlier suggested the Board was originally meant to end the Israel‑Hamas war and oversee reconstruction, but its charter contains no reference to Gaza, implying it seeks to replace UN functions.
The war began on 7 October when Hamas launched an attack that killed 1,200 Israelis and captured 251 hostages. Israeli airstrikes thereafter have killed more than 73,290 civilians, including 21,280 children, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
