President Donald Trump has unveiled renovations to the bathroom in the Lincoln Bedroom as part of his extensive remodeling of the White House. The newly revealed bathroom features black and white marble and gold fixtures, which Trump claims reflect the aesthetic appropriate for the era of Abraham Lincoln.
Sharing images of the renovation on social media, Trump noted that the previous decor, completed in the 1940s with art deco green tiles, was 'totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era'. He suggested that the new marble could be reminiscent of what was originally installed during Lincoln's time.
The remodeling is only the latest in a series of changes, including a demolition of the White House's East Wing for a new ballroom, funded privately and drawing ire from critics worried about the preservation of the iconic building's historical integrity.
Trump's renovation efforts, which include extravagant gold accents and features in the Oval Office and a transformed Rose Garden, have led conservationists and political figures to accuse him of prioritizing luxury over pressing issues such as the ongoing government shutdown.
This remodeling of the bathroom in Lincoln's office has stirred debate over Trump's focus on the aesthetics of the White House compared to tackling significant governmental concerns, with some even mocking his interventions compared to essential needs like healthcare.
As scrutiny intensifies, Trump's administration has defended the changes, labeling critics as 'unhinged leftists' who disapprove of his 'visionary additions' to the historic residence.
