DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) — Prosecutors Monday initiated their case against Brian Walshe, accused of the gruesome murder of his wife, Ana Walshe, who vanished more than two years ago. The startling events unfolded after a New Year’s Eve dinner when she was last seen. Prosecutors assert that Walshe is guilty of first-degree murder, while the defense claims he acted out of panic when confronted with his wife's sudden death in bed.

Ana Walshe, a Serbian immigrant and family provider, disappeared subsequently to the dinner at their Massachusetts home, and her body has yet to be found. Brian Walshe’s past guilty plea for misleading law enforcement and illegally disposing of a human body lays the groundwork for the current trial.

Assistant District Attorney Gregory P. Connor stated in his opening remarks, We will prove the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of the premeditated murder of his wife Ana Walshe. Prosecutors alleged that, in the crucial days following Ana Walshe's disappearance, Brian engaged in multiple online searches about body dismemberment and disposal techniques. Furthermore, investigators observed surveillance footage allegedly showing him discarding heavy trash bags near their home. A subsequent search revealed a range of items in a trash processing facility linking back to Ana.

The couple’s insurance policy worth $2.7 million, naming Brian as the sole beneficiary, complicates the narrative amid their custody battle over three young children who remain under state care.
