At least 15 people have been confirmed dead in Sunday's shooting attack at Bondi beach, with many attending an event to mark the first day of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. Authorities have identified several among the victims, including two rabbis, a Holocaust survivor, and a 10-year-old girl.
Among the deceased was Matilda, just 10 years old, who was remembered as a bright and joyful child. Irina Goodhew, her former teacher, shared her grief, stating, She brought light to everyone around her. Matilda’s family and school community expressed profound sorrow over her passing.
Rabbi Eli Schlanger, known as the Bondi Rabbi, was instrumental in organizing the event and was remembered as a loving father and community leader. His cousin confirmed his death, emphasizing his kindness and dedication to others.
Dan Elkayam, a French national and avid footballer, was also killed in the tragic event. Rockdale Ilinden Football Club mourned their integral member, conveying condolences to his family and friends.
Among the victims was Alexander Kleytman, a Holocaust survivor, who died while shielding his wife from gunfire, demonstrating remarkable bravery. The Gurman couple, married for 34 years, also perished in the attack, with their family honoring their selfless actions during the chaos.
Authorities have noted the somber atmosphere of shock and grief in the community as families gather to mourn their loved ones. Additional tributes continue to pour in for those lost, highlighting their contributions and the impact they made in their communities.
