A concrete arch roof collapsed at the entrance of a factory in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, killing three industrial laborers and injuring four others, a local official said on Thursday.
The incident took place early on Wednesday, according to the statement released by an unnamed local authority in the state's Krishnagiri district. The roof had been under construction on the factory’s entrance in a local industrial area, when it suddenly came down on the workers gathered there.
Officials described the collapsed structure as a heavy concrete arch, and noted that more than 15 workers were present at the construction site when the accident occurred. All of the deceased were industrial laborers, and the four injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In the hours following the collapse, emergency responders arrived on the scene and began clearing the debris. The local hospital admitted the injured workers and began assessing their conditions; no statements have been released on the severity of the injuries beyond the fact that they were admitted.
The factory’s management has not yet issued a public statement. However, the local official indicated that an investigation has begun to determine the cause of the collapse. No details have been disclosed about potential safety violations or construction irregularities.
Power and water were reported to be unaffected in the surrounding industrial area, according to the local official. The collapse did not disrupt the larger industrial zone, but it prompted a temporary halt in the drafting of new projects in the vicinity as authorities assess structural integrity.
The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns in industrial construction sites across the region, where rapid development has sometimes led to oversight lapses. While this particular collapse remains under investigation, the local authority’s statement underscores the urgency of ensuring adequate safety measures for workers on site.
As the investigation continues, the local government has urged factory owners and construction companies to maintain strict adherence to safety codes and to report any incidents promptly. Officials are reviewing the construction plans and inspecting similar structures in the Krishnagiri district to prevent further accidents.
The families of the three workers who died are receiving support from local charities and the state government, who announced a compensation fund for the victims’ families. The authorities are also monitoring the health and safety regime of the affected factory, as part of an effort to reduce the risk of future collapses in the industrial sector.
