Police have arrested a 15‑year‑old in connection with a shooting that took place at 8 p.m. local time this Saturday, close to an American football stadium in Tallahassee. Eleven people were shot, and another suffered an ankle injury while fleeing. Six of the injured were children.
The suspect, Anthony Rivers III, faces 11 counts of attempted second‑degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent. Police assert the shooting followed an altercation between acquaintances, and that additional arrests are possible.
The victims were not the intended targets, officials said in a statement. “What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community turned into a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families,” said Police Chief Lawrence Revell. He added that the authorities remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and providing answers to affected families.
At the time of a Sunday press conference, police noted that six people were hospitalized, one of whom was in critical condition, while five had been released. Revell explained that due to the large crowd from the football game, police had to carry some victims in their arms to emergency responders.
