Sinners Shatters Oscar Nomination Record with 16 Nominations
Sinners, a vampire horror film, has broken the record for the most Oscar nominations received by a single film, achieving an impressive 16 nominations. This surpasses the previous record of 14 nominations held by iconic films like All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land.
The film's nominations put it ahead of its closest competitor of the year, One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which received 13 nods. Notable nominees from Sinners include the film’s lead Michael B Jordan, alongside British co-stars Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo.
Other prominent nominees include Timothée Chalamet, who hopes to win his first Oscar after previously being nominated twice, and Jessie Buckley, viewed as the frontrunner for best actress for her role in Hamnet.
However, the awards race has not been without its omissions; notably, Paul Mescal was overlooked for his performance in Hamnet, while Wicked: For Good did not receive any nominations.
The awards ceremony will take place on March 15, 2026, in Hollywood.
The Leading Films:

Sinners has proven to be more than just a horror film, generating significant accolades and marking a departure from the norm where horror films often fail to gain recognition in award circles. Both Jordan’s portrayal of twin brothers in a vampire-infested Mississippi and the film’s thematic richness around issues of race and redemption highlight its unique narrative.
The 2026 Oscar nominations demonstrate a broader acceptance of horror genres in high-stake competitions, raising expectations for the future of such films in mainstream cinema.
