In brief

Actress Selma Blair has publicly denied that she intended to harm anyone during a Delta flight incident that led to multiple assaults. Her publicist explained that a medical emergency linked to her multiple sclerosis and pseudobulbar affect altered her behavior. Blair was charged with assault against flight staff and a federal summons, but she has pleaded not guilty. The case highlights the intersection of health challenges and legal accountability for public figures.

Actress Selma Blair has stated she did not intend to harm anyone during a Delta Airlines flight that ended in an on‑board altercation.

Her publicist released a statement saying the 54‑year‑old actress experienced a medical emergency on the flight and that there is “much more to this story” than the police report suggests.

Blair, who has been publicly open about her multiple sclerosis (MS) since 2018, continues to live with the disease and suffers from a neurological condition known as pseudobulbar affect (PBA). PBA can trigger sudden, uncontrollable laughter, crying or anger that may appear out of character and can influence a person’s actions.

According to the statement, these health issues “bear directly on how a medical episode presents to people who do not know her.” The claim that Blair tried to open the aircraft door was also denied.

Blair has pleaded not guilty to charges that she assaulted a flight attendant, a medical nurse and later a police officer after being removed from the plane. She is also facing a federal summons for assault within U.S. maritime jurisdiction.

The incident occurred on a flight from Los Angeles to New York on Sunday evening, when a pilot called for medical help after an “alleged” altercation. An on‑board nurse reported a bloody nose and bite marks; two flight attendants were injured and one required hospital care.

The flight attendant was taken off the plane and the case was transferred to state court where Blair was charged with assault and released on bail. She remains in custody for the federal charge until the next hearing.

Blair’s publicist emphasised that the actress has never been arrested before and maintains that the full context of the event has not been fully disclosed. They urge reporters to consider all facts before forming public opinion.
