TUCSON, Ariz. — Authorities in Arizona have initiated a search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of renowned 'Today' show host Savannah Guthrie, who was reported missing over the past weekend.According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, Nancy was last seen at her Tucson area home around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Her family reported her missing the following day around noon. Sheriff Nanos has noted that while Nancy suffers from some physical ailments, she does not have cognitive issues that would further complicate her disappearance. In the search efforts, authorities have deployed drones and search dogs, with support from volunteer search teams, Border Patrol, and even the homicide unit due to unusual circumstances surrounding the case. Sheriff Nanos highlighted that the involvement of the homicide team is not typical for missing persons cases but was deemed necessary given the nature of the situation.Nanos stated, “This one stood out because of what was described to us at the scene and what we located just looking at the scene,” indicating that foul play is not off the table as the search continues. In a public statement on Monday, Savannah Guthrie thanked the public for their outpouring of support, saying, “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”
