In brief
Russian forces fired a ballistic missile at a drone technology exhibition near Kyiv, killing ten and wounding about 100. Ukrainian officials say the site showcased advanced unmanned aircraft intended for remote attacks. The strike marks the third time such an event has been hit since the 2022 invasion. Ukraine retaliated with air strikes on Russian factories and logistics hubs, including Kirov and Wildberries warehouses, as part of a broader strategy to disrupt Russian supply chains.
At least ten people were killed and about one hundred injured when a Russian ballistic missile strike hit a drone technology exhibition near Kyiv on Friday, according to Ukrainian officials.
The event had attracted senior defence ministers, pilots and private sector representatives, and was being advertised as a public demonstration of drone capabilities.
Russian Defence Ministry officials said high‑precision long‑range weaponry was used to strike the site, which showcased drones intended for remote strike operations.
Ukraine has repeated its retaliatory strikes on Russian infrastructure, including a counter‑attack on a factory in the city of Kirov and on Wildberries warehouses in the north‑west.
Zelenskiy said an investigation is underway and that the safety of Defence Ministry adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov and designer Lyuba Shypovych was being monitored after the attack.
The incident follows other Russian glide‑bomb attacks on the eastern city of Sloviansk and an overnight Ukrainian strike that killed six people in Kirov.
A former drone officer confirmed that the exhibition’s organisers had planned the event without sufficient protective measures, leading to widespread criticism and calls for stricter security protocols.
Russia denied any intentional aim at civilians, describing the attack as a strategic strike against a legitimate military target. Ukrainian authorities anticipate further escalations as the conflict intensifies.
