On July 24 a Russian ballistic missile barrage struck a drone showcase just outside Kyiv, killing ten and injuring around a hundred. The site, which displayed drones for civilian and military use, drew attention from defence officials and was within a zone many considered safe. Kyiv’s President Zelensky announced the casualties, while Ukrainian forces responded with strikes on Russian targets, including the Kirov factory and Wildberries warehouses. The incident spurred calls for tighter security at public military events and underscored the escalating risk to civilians.

A series of three ballistic missiles fired from Russian forces struck a public exhibition showcasing drone technology near Kyiv on the evening of 24 July. The attack killed ten people – many of whom were defence‑sector officials – and wounded around one hundred more.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the death toll and the scale of injuries, noting the event’s high‑profile attendance. Ukrainian air‑force officials reported that of the three missiles, only one was intercepted.

The exhibition featured drones used for both civilian and military purposes, including targeting civilian sites in Russia. Russian defence statements said the strike was aimed at these producers, who were identified as directly planning and carrying out strikes on Russian territory.

The day also saw further clashes: five people died in Sloviansk from glide‑bombs, and two men were killed in Sumy. In retaliation, Ukrainian forces struck a factory in the Russian city of Kirov and attacked Wildberries warehouses in north‑west Russia, adding to the series of cross‑border strikes.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage over hosting a defence‑related event in an area perceived as vulnerable. Zelensky said the investigation was underway, and the prosecutor‑general’s office is probing the decision‑making and security measures surrounding the exhibition.
