Norway bids farewell to King Harald V

Half‑mast flags marked a private burial at Akershus Fortress, with the monarch interred in the Palace Chapel’s crypt following a public service at Oslo Cathedral.
Following the funeral, the new king Haakon VIII announced his ascension, waving from the Royal Palace balcony to the crowds outside.
King Harald, who died in August 2026, had been a symbol of stability for Norway.
