Muscatine Tragedy: Six Fatal Shootings and Suspect’s Suicide

In a harrowing day for Muscatine, Iowa, officers responded to a home in the city’s southeast region where they discovered four victims fatally shot. Police Chief Anthony Kies confirmed the grim scene at a news conference Monday.

Officers later located the suspect, 52‑year‑old Ryan Willis McFarland, on a local trail. According to Kies, “While talking to Ryan Willis McFarland, he took his own life.”

Two additional men, also believed to be relatives of McFarland, were found fatally shot elsewhere in the city: one in a private residence and the other inside a business premises. The names and details of the victims have not yet been released.

“This act of evil and what it has done to our community,” Chief Kies said, reflecting on the devastation. The police department continues to process scenes, conduct interviews, and seek information from the public. Police have urged anyone with clues to contact the major crimes unit.

Kies confirmed that McFarland had a criminal record, but declined to elaborate on the details. Investigations into the shootings remain ongoing, with authorities working to untangle the motives behind the tragedy.
