Jeff Bezos Declares AI Will Create More Jobs, Not Replace Them
At VivaTech Paris, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos made a bold case that artificial intelligence will fuel a labour shortage rather than wipe out existing jobs.
He explained that his AI venture Prometheus is focused on accelerating physical manufacturing—a sector that is becoming increasingly automated—yet it creates new opportunities for skilled workers, not replaces them.
“I know there is a lot of concern that many people have, including many smart people, that AI is going to make humans redundant and so on,” Bezos said, stressing that AI is actually “going to create a labour shortage.”
He contrasted his view with comments from former UK prime minister Rishi Sunak, who warned that AI could hurt young people’s job prospects. Bezos argued that when properly developed, AI’s productivity gains will benefit workers rather than displace them.
While speaking, Bezos also touched on space exploration, declaring that “we’re going to the Moon to stay, not just to visit,” and outlined how lunar resources could support a permanent human presence.
He also highlighted Blue Origin’s recent setback after a New Glenn rocket exploded during a ground test, noting that the company has learned and plans to resume launches before year‑end.
Bezos’s remarks come at a time when professional associations like the Trades Union Congress urge that AI must be developed responsibly to avoid the “disaster of deindustrialisation.”
