RYE, NY – In a notable legal action, Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, has initiated a $250,000 negligence lawsuit against her hometown of Rye, New York, and Consolidated Edison. The lawsuit comes following an incident on August 28, when Pirro reportedly tripped over a wooden block that was protruding from a steel plate covering road excavation work.
The amended complaint details that the protrusion was related to gas-main work being conducted by Consolidated Edison, and states that, as a direct result of the defendants’ negligence, Pirro sustained serious injuries, including bruises and contusions to her head, eye, face, and shoulder, leading to ongoing pain and limitations in her movement.
Pirro, who recently took on the role of the Trump administration’s top prosecutor for D.C., was said to have been confined to bed and requiring medical attention due to the injuries sustained from the fall.
Legal representatives for both the City of Rye and Consolidated Edison have declined to comment on the ongoing litigation. A motion to dismiss the lawsuit suggested that the City cannot be deemed negligent as the incident occurred in an area not designated as a pedestrian walkway. Conversely, the Con Ed attorney argued that the risks associated with the situation were evident and should have been recognized by pedestrians.
Pirro, a prominent attorney, has served both as a judge and district attorney in Westchester County, accentuating her influence in local legal matters.
