US Central Command said it had carried out drone, air and naval strikes on Iranian coastal defenses and missile targets on Greater Tunb Island in a 90‑minute operation. These assaults were part of a broader strategy to degrade Iran’s capacity to attack commercial shipping in the strait.
President Donald Trump escalated the conflict by demanding that Iran resume talks or face new sanctions. He also threatened a mass blockade of Iranian ports, which had been lifted as part of a recent memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the months‑long dispute.
With tanker traffic virtually halted, global oil prices have surged amid concerns over the long‑term security of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route for about a fifth of worldwide oil flows.
In response to the renewed blockade, Iran’s state‑run broadcaster reported separate attacks on U.S. targets in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, while U.S. allies intercepted Iranian drones and missiles launched over the region.
