Pro-Palestinian activists allege that Israeli forces intercepted a flotilla of over 50 boats carrying aid for Gaza in international waters off the coast of Cyprus. The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) described the boarding as 'another illegal, high-seas aggression' 250 nautical miles from Gaza, which is under an Israeli maritime blockade. A live video stream from the flotilla showed armed commandos boarding the vessels.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked that the operation effectively neutralized a plan aimed at breaking the isolation imposed on Hamas. This interception follows a similar incident last month, where 22 boats from the same flotilla were intercepted near Crete, resulting in the detention of 181 activists, most of whom were later released in Greece.

The GSF departed from Turkey's Marmaris port last Thursday, carrying humanitarian supplies for Gazans, who are facing dire living conditions. The Israeli government insists the blockade is lawful and claims Gaza is 'flooded with aid', suggesting that the flotilla's aims are politically motivated.

Critics, including Turkey's foreign ministry and a Hamas official, condemned the Israeli actions. Video footage demonstrated dramatic scenes of commandos boarding boats as activists raised their hands in surrender, highlighting the tense situation unfolding in international waters.
