CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina judge on Monday ordered a Honduran man to be held without bond following a non-fatal stabbing on a Charlotte commuter train. Oscar Solarzano, 33, faces several charges including attempted first-degree murder for the attack that injured 24-year-old Kenyon Kareem Dobie.

Solarzano appeared in court via video link, where he learned of the charges against him, including assault with a deadly weapon. His next hearing is scheduled for December 30. The court has revealed that Solarzano has a history that includes previous deportations and criminal convictions.

The incident occurred during a confrontation between Solarzano and Dobie, who stepped in after Solarzano was allegedly yelling at an older woman. In a TikTok post from his hospital room, Dobie expressed that he felt it was better that he confronted Solarzano rather than an elderly person.

This stabbing incident comes just months after a separate attack involving a Ukrainian refugee, raising concerns about safety on public transit in Charlotte. In response to the recent events and comments made by former President Trump regarding crime rates associated with illegal immigration, local officials stress their commitment to enhancing safety measures on their transit system.

Mayor Vi Lyles and CATS CEO Brent Cagle have stated that proactive safety measures, including increased security presence, are being implemented to ensure the safety of all commuters.
