Four children were among at least 14 people injured in an overnight Russian air attack on the capital Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said.
Two high-rise residential buildings were hit in the strikes, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated, without specifying whether they were directly targeted or damaged by falling debris.
Everyone is receiving medical assistance, some have been hospitalized, Kyiv's military administration mentioned in a post on Telegram.
Simultaneously, Russian air defenses intercepted a drone heading towards Moscow, reported the city's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin.
The strikes occurred as US President Donald Trump indicated he would only meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin if a beneficial deal was assured, after their planned Budapest meeting was canceled. Trump expressed disappointment in his relationship with Putin and emphasized his wish for China to contribute to peace efforts in Ukraine.
Despite Trump’s frustrations, Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev remarked on the potential for a diplomatic solution facilitated by Ukraine’s acknowledgment of current battle lines, while rooting for progress in ending the conflict.
As the perilous situation continues, the urgency for diplomatic action grows amidst the backdrop of the relentless strikes affecting civilians.
