A 26‑year‑old from Hackney is imprisoned for blackmail and perverting justice after alleging a banker raped her, a claim the court found false.

British citizen Isabel Rose was sentenced to six years in Hong Kong after the court found her rape allegation fabricated. The case began when she visited a banker and claimed they had been raped. Prosecutors argued she used the claim to extort £100,000 from the man. Judge Adriana Tse described her actions as ‘cruel and evil’ and imposed a combined six‑year sentence.

Isabel Rose, 26, from Hackney in east London has been handed a six‑year prison sentence in Hong Kong after the court concluded she fabricated a rape allegation against a British banker.

Rose travelled to Hong Kong in January 2024 to visit the banker, after which she asserted that he had raped her. She reported the incident to police on 3 February, which led to the banker's arrest and subsequent release without charge.

During court proceedings, prosecutors highlighted WhatsApp messages that implicated Rose in a scheme to extort £100,000 from the banker, offering reimbursements for travel and accommodation but later demanding more.

Judge Adriana Tse condemned Rose’s conduct as “cruel and evil,” noting that she had taken advantage of the banker’s kindness and friendship. She also characterised Rose’s false police report as “vengeful and wicked.”

After the conviction in March, Rose appeared in Hong Kong’s District Court on Wednesday for sentencing. She denied the charges throughout the trial but the judge imposed a combined sentence of five years for blackmail and three years for perverting the course of justice, with one year to be served consecutively.

The conviction underscores Hong Kong’s rigorous stance on safeguarding the integrity of its judicial system.
