Baseball stadium becomes refuge for Venezuela earthquake survivors
On Wednesday last week, two massive earthquakes struck Venezuela, leaving the nation’s northern coastal towns heavily damaged and many residents without homes. The violence of the quakes sent shakes through entire communities, prompting emergency responses and urgent international attention.
BBC reporter Will Grant visited a makeshift shelter in Catia la Mar, where survivors have congregated inside a repurposed baseball stadium. Without established living quarters, families are sleeping outdoors or in tents on the field.
The refugees now rely on donated food and clothing to meet their daily needs. They hope that local and national authorities will secure temporary accommodations while Venezuela begins the long process of rebuilding.
