In a stark courtroom held in Tipp City, Ohio, former pastor Caleb Flynn was found guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley, in February when he shot her twice in the head while she slept. The jury deliberated for less than three hours before delivering the verdict, a testament to the overwhelming evidence presented for the prosecution.
Flynn, 40, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole for the aggravating murder charge as well as eight additional counts including tampering with evidence. Despite Flynn’s defence team’s claims that the evidence was circumstantial and that infidelity alone does not prove murder, the judge concluded the jury’s short deliberation time underscored the certainty of guilt. The judge noted that Flynn’s own text messages, written in the weeks leading up to the death, read, 'I was up until 4am last night crying, literally thinking of ways to kill her and not go to jail.' He also wrote, 'I just want her dead and gone.' These exchanges, combined with the missing gun from his truck’s console and inconsistent statements to police, sealed the verdict.
