Grenoble Bar Attack Leaves 12 Injured, Investigators Probe Motive

A grenade attack in Grenoble's Aksehir bar on Wednesday evening injured twelve people, leaving two in critical condition as investigations into the motive unfold.

Authorities responded swiftly to the scene, which was bustling with patrons when the assailant allegedly threw the grenade and entered with a Kalashnikov. The local prosecutor indicated that the attack could relate to ongoing criminal activities, particularly in the drug trade.

The violent incident occurred around 20:00 local time, and as victims received medical attention, law enforcement set up a substantial presence around the bar in the Olympic Village neighborhood, further intensified by the rapid response of 80 firefighters and police officers. The area has been cordoned off as law enforcement investigates possible links to gang rivalries.

Deputy Mayor Chloe Pantel characterized the venue as a popular gathering spot for both locals and visitors, especially during football matches. Grenoble's Mayor Eric Piolle denounced the attack, labeling it "an extraordinary act of violence" while expressing gratitude towards first responders for their prompt action.
