Tragic Plane Crash Claims Two Lives in Southern California
A small aircraft collided with a commercial building, resulting in fatalities and injuries amid ongoing investigations.
A devastating plane crash occurred in southern California, claiming the lives of two people and injuring 18 others after a small aircraft struck a commercial building. The incident unfolded when the single-engine Van's RV-10 crashed at approximately 14:15 PST (20:15 GMT) into the roof of a furniture manufacturing facility in Fullerton, with reports confirming that ten individuals were hospitalized while eight others were treated on-site before being released.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and it remains unclear whether the deceased were workers in the building or occupants of the plane. Authorities have evacuated surrounding areas and advised the public to steer clear of the impact site. Congressman Lou Correa, representing Orange County—located about 25 miles south of Los Angeles—indicated that many of the victims were employees at the Julie Nicholas Designs furniture factory, where the crash took place.
Aerial images reveal wreckage lodged inside the factory, and witnesses described a fiery explosion emanating from the crash site. Security footage from nearby buildings captured a tumultuous scene as the aircraft hit the fabric of the commercial structure. "People are just shaken over the situation," witness Mark Anderson recounted, while employee Juanita Ramirez described the moment as a surreal experience, marked by a loud bang followed by flames.
Significant evacuation efforts were prompted, with around 100 individuals displaced from the factory in the wake of the incident. Notably, this is the second plane crash in the Fullerton area within two months, with an earlier incident occurring on November 25, when another aircraft crashed into a nearby tree, though no serious injuries were reported then. The proximity of the crash site to Fullerton Municipal Airport, approximately six miles from Disneyland, has raised questions about aviation safety in the busy Los Angeles region.
