Missing Photographer Rescued After Six Days in Snowy Mountains
Lovisa Sjoberg, reported missing after a photography trip, was found with snake bites and dehydration following an extensive search.
A dramatic rescue unfolded in Australia's Snowy Mountains as Lovisa Sjoberg, missing for six days, was found in a dazed state by emergency services amid a comprehensive search operation. The 48-year-old photographer had ventured into the Kosciuszko National Park to capture images of the stunning landscape but failed to return, raising alarms when a car rental agency reported her vehicle as overdue.
Sjoberg's hire car was located abandoned and unlocked, which further escalated concerns for her safety. New South Wales (NSW) Police initiated a public appeal on October 21 for information regarding her whereabouts, launching a significant search involving sniffer dogs, firefighters, park rangers, and a helicopter equipped with infrared technology.
Despite challenging weather conditions, including nighttime temperatures plummeting to near zero, search teams worked tirelessly day and night. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, Sjoberg was discovered by a National Parks and Wildlife Service officer along the Nungar Creek Trail in Kiandra. She was found suffering from a suspected snake bite, dehydration, and a rolled ankle.
Reportedly, Sjoberg indicated that she had encountered a copperhead snake four days prior. While this species tends to avoid confrontation, its venom is highly toxic and can lead to serious consequences without treatment.
Superintendent Toby Lindsay expressed relief at Sjoberg's survival, stating, “She’s in fact very fortunate to be alive... she obviously went through a tough time.” After being treated for her injuries at the scene, Sjoberg was transported to a local hospital, where her condition was reported as stable. Her remarkable return from a harrowing experience stands as a reminder of the dangers posed by nature, even to seasoned adventurers.
