Florida man faces charges after swallowing high-value earrings during theft attempt.
In a bizarre incident that unfolded in Orlando, Florida, police arrested Jaythan Gilder, a man accused of grand theft and robbery after he reportedly swallowed stolen earrings from luxury jeweler Tiffany & Co. Gilder entered the store claiming to represent a "professional athlete," which allowed him to view high-end merchandise. Following a theft involving two pairs of earrings worth an astonishing $769,500 and a diamond ring he is said to have dropped during his escape, Gilder fled the premises.
Later that day, law enforcement pursued him and witnessed the troubling moment when he attempted to ingest several objects believed to be the stolen earrings. Orlando police released an x-ray image indicating an object lodged in a person's abdomen, though they did not confirm if the jewelry had been retrieved.
It is noteworthy that Gilder has a history of theft, previously robbing a Tiffany & Co. store in Texas in 2022. Furthermore, he has a staggering 48 warrants outstanding for him in Colorado. As he awaits his day in court, Gilder faces charges of robbery with a mask and first-degree grand theft for goods exceeding $100,000 in value. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
