Authorities in France have initiated a formal investigation into the death of Raphaël Graven, a 46-year-old streamer widely recognized as Jeanpormanove, renowned for his extreme challenges on the live-streaming platform, Kick. Graven's lifeless body was discovered at a residence in Contes, located just north of Nice, during a broadcast. Reports indicate he battled violence and severe sleep deprivation during his streams, ultimately dying in his sleep while live.
The French government's minister, Clara Chappaz, highlighted the seriousness of Graven's circumstances, referring to the violence he faced as "absolute horror." She noted that he had been subjected to humiliation for an extended period leading up to his death. In response to Graven's tragic demise, Kick has stated it is "urgently reviewing" the situation and expressed condolences to his family and community. They emphasized their commitment to maintaining safety standards across their platform.
Chappaz has taken the step of involving Arcom, the French media regulator, along with Pharos, a reporting system for online content, into the matter. Sarah El Haïry, France's High Commissioner for Children, echoed concerns about the responsibilities of streaming platforms in regulating violent content, urging parents to be vigilant.
The prosecutor’s office has confirmed it is conducting an investigation into Graven's death and has ordered an autopsy. Jeanpormanove had amassed over a million followers across social media, establishing a strong digital community. Fellow content creators have mourned his loss, with Naruto—a close associate—requesting respect for Graven's memory and asking that clips depicting his death not be circulated. Another streamer, Owen Cenazandotti, urged followers to refrain from spreading videos that might exploit Graven's final moments.
